Installing a uControl Appliance

Before you begin

Identify a server to deploy uControl to.

Verify the server has resources to support uControl.

Packaging

The Virtual Appliances are packaged as a compressed zip file that contains either a

  • VMware virtual machine
  • VirtualBox virtual machine

VMware ESX/ESXi

  1. Copy and extract the uControl zip file to the local file system.
  2. In VMware Virtual Infrastructure, from the File menu, select Deploy OVF Template. 
    The wizard guides you through the rest of the process described here.
  3. Enter the file name of uControl OVF file into the Filename dialog box, or click Browse... to locate the file. 
    Click Next.
  4. Review the details provided. 
    Click Next.
  5. Provide a name for the virtual machine. 
    Click Next.
  6. Choose datastore location for the virtual machine. 
    Click Next.
  7. Choose thin or thick disk format. The default is thick which pre-allocates all disk space. 
    Click Next.
  8. Review the configuration and click Finish to proceed. 
    A progress bar is displayed while the virtual machine is deployed.
  9. Review the settings and click Finish.
  10. Click OK to save the changes. 
    You can now start the virtual machine.
